Yayasan Rumah Ohana Indonesia (YROI) is a non-profit organization committed to supporting education for children from vulnerable and underprivileged backgrounds by providing access to quality learning opportunities and a safe, supportive environment where they can grow, learn, and reach their full potential.

The organization was born out of a firsthand encounter with children experiencing homelessness and limited access to education in Jakarta

Founded in 2019, Rumah Ohana was established with a mission to provide a safe and nurturing environment for children living in vulnerable conditions. The organization was born out of a firsthand encounter with children experiencing homelessness and limited access to education in Jakarta—an experience that inspired a deep commitment to create a space where every child can grow, learn, and truly belong.

The name “Rumah Ohana” reflects the heart of our values. “Rumah,” meaning home in Indonesian, and “Ohana,” meaning family in Hawaiian, serve as a reminder that no one is left behind. We strive to build a family-like community where every child is seen, supported, and empowered to thrive.

Our Journey

From humble beginnings to a growing impact

2019 - Opened branches in Cilacap & Tangerang.

Our journey began with two shelter homes in Cilacap and Tangerang, providing care for children from underprivileged backgrounds.
2021

2021 - Relocated Tangerang branch to Rumpin

In 2021, to expand our reach, the Tangerang branch was relocated to Rumpin, Bogor, and we identified a critical gap in early childhood education, particularly in foundational literacy.
2023

2023 - Opened free kindergarten in Cilacap

In response, we established a new facility in Cilacap, later developed into PAUD/KB Ohana and officially opened on July 10, 2023, welcoming 50 students supported by a dedicated team of educators.

Through learning support and comprehensive care, we aim to create equal opportunities for every child to receive quality education. By providing consistent guidance and resources, we aim to help children stay in school, improve their academic performance and pursue a brighter and more secure future.

We are committed to providing not only academic assistance, but also non academic such as character development, life skills and personal growth opportunities. Under our care, we hope each child gains the confidence to explore their talents and discover their strengths to be resilient, independent and well-prepared to contribute positively to their communities.

Our Facilities

Ohana Swimming Pool (Ohana Water Park)

Ohana Swimming Pool was established in response to the limited access to recreational facilities for the community in Sidareja, Cilacap, Central Java. To ensure that everyone can enjoy and benefit from the facility regardless of their economic background, Ohana Swimming Pool is provided free of charge for the community. Beyond serving as a recreational space, the pool also supports schools and other institutions that conduct sports assessments, particularly swimming evaluations, as part of their academic activities.

  • On weekdays, the pool is open exclusively for schools, clubs, and community groups with prior arrangements. On weekends and public holidays, it is open to the general public.

  • Visitors are required to sign an indemnity form acknowledging personal responsibility for injuries or lost items, while safety supervision continues to be supported by three lifeguards.

  • To ensure adequate supervision of children, we apply a guardian-to-child maximum ratio of 1:4, meaning one responsible adult must accompany a maximum of four children.

  • A maximum of 75 visitors is allowed at one time to maintain safety and minimize impact on nearby waterparks.

    Rumah Ohana carries out its mission through three main programs:

    1. Shelter Program
      A program that provides a safe and supportive living environment for children from vulnerable backgrounds. Through this program, we support their daily needs, education and overall well-being.
    2. Education Support Program
      A program dedicated to supporting vulnerable children with educational funding and school-related needs. We collaborate closely with schools and maintain active communication with parents or guardians to ensure the children’s educational development.
    3. PAUD Program
      A free early childhood education program for children from underprivileged families, helping them develop foundational skills and prepare for elementary school.

    Yes. Rumah Ohana welcomes individuals and communities who are passionate about education, child welfare, and social impact to join our volunteer programs.

    Rumah Ohana’s volunteer program is called Teman Ohana (Terangi Mimpi Anak). It is a volunteer initiative established by Rumah Ohana to support children in their growth and aspirations. Beyond helping to “light up” their dreams, Teman Ohana are encouraged to become a source of support, encouragement, and companionship for the children.

    Teman Ohana volunteers will help conduct online interviews with our ESP children and their parents. These interviews are intended as a monitoring and evaluation process carried out by Rumah Ohana to better understand the children’s academic and non-academic development.

    Yes. Teman Ohana volunteer program is open to individuals from all domiciles, as volunteers can contribute online. If there are any offline activities in the future, participation will be adjusted based on domicile considerations and the availability of each Teman Ohana volunteer.
